Branched Burr Reed - Sparganium errectum

Aquatic sedge like perennial up to 1m (3ft) high growing from thick spreading rhizomes in shallow, still or slow flowing water on mud, silt or wet soil. Erect growth with robust stems and long triangular section bright green leaves.

Flowers in unisexual spherical pointed heads on branched spikes, appearing from June to August. Bottom flowers are female ♀ and the upper male ♂, fruits a yellow/brown nut. Found widespread in the UK, restricted to lowland areas.
