Cocksfoot - Dactylis glomerata

Tussock forming perennial grass of woodland paths and grasslands, widespread and very common in most areas. Grows to 1m (39in) high with rough leaves having inrolled edges and rough stout stalks. The plant is easily identified when in flower during May to August. Purplish spreading flower heads on rounded stalks are said to resemble the shape of a bird's foot.
