Shaggy Parasol - Macrolepiota rhacodes
Also known as Lepiota rhacodes

An edible white to cream fungus growing to 15cm (6in) diameter with a distinctive brown scaly cap during the summer in rich soil and compost. Found in North America and Europe. Grows as a creamy white sub-spherical bulb 40-60mm (1.6-2.4in) across gradual going brown erupting into a distinctive mushroom shaped fungi with brown scales from the erupted surface. Gills are white to cream giving a white spore print. Although listed as edible Shaggy Parasol may cause stomach upsets in some people. FBCP do not advise or recommend that Shaggy Parasol, M. rhacodes is eaten.
