Small White butterfly - Pieris rapae

One of the most common butterflies growing to between 40 and 50mm (1.6 - 2in). A species found in agricultural habitats being well adapted to horticultural and agricultural produce. It can produce upto 3 generations in a year depending upon the climatic conditions. Caterpillars feed on crucifers and the chrysalis hibernates. Overall white or yellow / white in colour, it has black wing tips with several (3 - 4) black eye spots towards the outer edges of the wings.
