Stinging Nettle - Urtica dioica
Perennial plant growing to 1.5m (5ft) from far reaching yellow coloured rhizomes. Erect robust stems covered with stinging hairs, leaves are covered in stinging hairs and are dark green and oval pointed with serrated edges, being found in alternating opposing pairs on the stem. Flowers appear in June to October as hanging catkins, male ♂ and female ♀ on different plants. Grows on waste ground and disturbed soils favouring slightly damp areas.
