Brickfields land lost to development

At our "Fur & Feathers" Fun Day (2nd July) we launched a petition to gather signatures against the sale of Brickfields Country Park land owned by HCC from the Chrismas Lodge property, the total currently stands at 200, everybody agreed with our cause and we are working to rapidly increase this number.
Aldershot News Lead article for 22/6/2006
Britains smallest Country Park is set to get even smaller !
Following on from our last news article we had a chance conversation with a local resident which prompted us to enquire with Rushmoor Borough Council about the closure of Chrismas Lodge, the boundaries and their affect on the park. We have now heard to the effect that should Chrismas Lodge be sold, the new owners (obviously a developer) would lay claim to the land as marked in the deeds, not as actually present on the land. (The affected area is coloured blue in the picture) This will mean that Brickfields Country Park will loose a strip of land along the Chrismas Lodge boundary some 10m wide, across the Western boundary up to the Highfield Gardens / Croft Lane path. We will loose the entrance to the park which is within this area.
As we mentioned last time, this is development by stealth, a fait acompli, without any consultation involving the public, Brickfields Country Park, or our elected ward councillors.
We can see this as being the thin end of the wedge for Brickfields Country Park in it's eventual disposal for housing, a terrible loss for the local community.
Brickfields Country Park, has in the past, won an award for Public Access, now the mandarins in Winchester want to reduce our access !. This shows just how disconnected Winchester is from the local community.
Please support us in our campaign to stop this loss and spread the word. Contact your local Councillor, your M.P., Hampshire County Council, Rushmoor Borough Council - anybody. Valuable resources like this in Aldershot are being lost, help to save this one !.
